“Esports, the growing, billion dollar industry, has now started to find it’s way on a bigger stage: College and Secondary Education. With Esports being still a new concept for many people, it comes with a lot of questions with the most common one being “What is Esports?” In this presentation, Joel Harvey, Head Esports Coach for Columbia Basin College, will be talking all about Esports! He will discuss the different careers students can pursue in Esports, how Columbia Basin College plans to connect with Pasco Parks and Recreation to involve Esports in the community for students, and supporting High Schools’ Esports Teams in the area with an “Pathway Expectations” program.”

CSTA Chapter Workshop - Dan White Roboco - Use Roboco for computer science instruction!
RoboCo is a new sandbox game (developed by Filament Games in partnership with FIRST) that teaches robotics and engineering. In the game, players build and program custom robots to solve whimsical challenges. This workshop will demonstrate the capabilities of the game and offer best practices for teaching with it, including how to run your very own robotics competition! We'll also show the in-game scaffolding for new players, the robot building functionality, how to attach sensors to a robot, and how to program a robot to solve a challenge using Python. At the end, we'll show some examples of advanced creations and programming solutions. For more information, check out www.roboco.co

CSTA Chapter Workshop - Joshua Bee - Programming with physics and automation - This is a reboot of a workshop I did several years ago. You will learn how to create a moving ball drawn on the screen. We will apply wind and gravity forces to this moving ball to simulate physics and real word behaviors. If you want to know a little bit more on how animations, automation and video games are made your welcome to come in. This is an excellent lesson to get students engaged in programming and physics.
